One of my favorite ways to relate with Spirit also happens to be one of the most useful in my opinion. This is simply the practice of asking Spirit yes or no questions.
I do this all the time.
"Is this safe to eat?" "Will it nourish me to drink this?" "Is this the next best thing for me to do?" "Is it in my highest and best interest to answer this text?" "Will it enrich my life to buy this thing?" “Would you like to me to turn right here?”
The list goes on and on. I consult my spirit team in this way in just about everything I do. I believe that we’re each the incarnated ones on a whole team of beings and their input in our lives really matters. I’ve learned that I can almost always find a way to frame an experience as a yes/no question and then let Spirit weigh in on it.
I’ve also learned that the more I use this tool, the more reliable it becomes.
For myself, I experience a rush of energy in my body when the answer is "Yes". It starts in my head and the stronger the yes is, the further down into my body the energy rush goes. Then, for me, if the answer is "No" I feel absolutely nothing, it's like cosmic crickets.
The way a yes or no comes through will be different for everyone. It’s often a physical sensation, like the rush of energy I get, or a tingle on one side of the body. Sometimes people hear something like a click or see a streak of color for a yes. Sometimes the answers come through more as a general knowing.
However the answers come to you, you can get to know them through practice. Below is a ritual for doing just that.
Remember, all of life is a dialogue with the Divine. Spirit speaks to us through every experience all of the time.
Ritual:
Open your sacred space.
Invite in your most trusted Spirit ally or guide. If you don’t already have a relationship with a guide, invite in your preferred face of the Divine. The important part here is that you implicitly trust this one.
Ask this one to clear your space and shore up your boundary.
Take a few centering breaths and feel your energy throughout your whole body. Spend a few moments just being in this Presence.
When you feel ready, simply ask aloud for Spirit to show you its “Yes”.
Be open to whatever happens. You might experience a physical sensation as I do. You might hear something or see a flash. You might simply get a sense of knowing. Whatever comes, allow it. It will likely be subtle at first. Practice self-kindness and don’t put too much pressure on “getting it right.”
Take a couple more deep breaths to re-center.
Now, ask aloud again for Spirit to show you its “Yes”.
Again, be open to whatever happens. If you notice the same sensation or experience as the first time, you’ve hit the jackpot. This is your yes and it will intensify and clarify as you practice this technique. If you notice a different sensation or experience, repeat these steps (again, gently and with self-kindness) until the yes is consistently repeated.
Once you feel comfortable with your “Yes”, repeat the process for getting your “No”.
Be sure to offer gratitude and close your space when your ritual is complete.
Exciting Announcement!
I’ve decided to offer a course to teach my ancestral healing method and I’m really excited about it! This will be an offering for paid subscribers beginning in October, but before that I want to lead a small beta group through the course. This will be a 12-week zoom based course running from the beginning of July to late September for a donate-what-you-can fee (suggested amount $50). I have a few slots left, so if this interests you, hit reply, leave a comment, or send me a DM. I can’t wait to do this work with you!
I love it when information like this comes at the exact right time. Thank you for sharing this 💜
Love this practice! I check in with Spirit but tend to ask more convoluted questions. :) Asking myself yes and no question works very well so I'm really excited to try this out with Spirit. Bookmarking this article. :)
