Ocean Ritual with my Subscribers

Dearest Readers,

I had a wonderful time taking all of you (in the form of stones I keep on my Substack altar) with me to Oceanside, California to commune with the Pacific Ocean in ritual. Each of you received some beautiful blessings and ocean love. Those of you who wrote in with specific requests, I spoke aloud to the ocean on your behalf. That huge, gorgeous Source of water felt especially connective and receptive to me that morning. Thank you all for trusting me with holding you in ritual space this way.

I began by making an offering of song and a little sprinkle of lavender grown on a farm near where I live in Albuquerque.

Then I introduced myself and all my spirit guides to the land and the ocean by drawing some of my ancestor symbols in the sand. (I had broken my toe just a few days before leaving on this trip, which is why it’s all bandaged up.)

Next, I opened the ritual space and lit the candles. Then I (VERY CAREFULLY) transferred all of your stones into the altar bowl and poured some consecrated ocean water around the outside.

For several moments, I sat and held space for each of you, asking for blessings of peace, nourishment, clarity, comfort and wellbeing. Then, one-by-one, I went through the specific requests I’d been given, speaking each aloud and sitting in stillness until I knew it had been received by the Ocean.

Finally, when all was complete, I closed the ritual space.

My hope is that through seeing these pictures, you can truly feel the magic of the ocean within your own hearts, knowing that a piece of you was there with me, communing, connecting, making offerings and receiving blessings.

P.S. For anyone curious about how my time in California went after I’d done the healing ritual with the state (you can read about that here), I have to say that the difference was remarkable. Interactions were smoother. I felt able to hold experiences more softly, which allowed me to cherish every moment with my family. In general there was much more ease than in previous visits. I truly felt a sense that the place understands me better now and so can hold me in a more supportive way. And I was able to understand the land’s point of view as well. We may never be fully in alignment and that's okay. We're different. Not everything has to resonate in deep harmony. But coming to understand one another better has truly made all the difference.
