Through the Warrior and the Page of Pentacles, this week we’re being called to step into the energy of purposeful action and grounded curiosity. Can we stand steadfast in our truth while remaining open to discovery, and allow each step to deepen our connection to what truly matters?
Welcome everyone! For an overview of what I’m doing here, please check out this post all about it. THANK YOU to all my subscribers! My heart and soul are filled with gratitude for your presence here. This week, I’m delighted to share something special with you all—a guest post by my dear friend and talented author,
. Julie is the creative mind behind Liminal Walker Musings, where she writes with depth about life, spirituality, and the tarot. Her ongoing series on the major arcana is truly remarkable and not to be missed—I’ll link it here so you can explore it for yourself.Julie’s wisdom and explorations into the realm of liminality have been a guiding light in my own work with Spirit. Week after week, her insightful comments on my archetype and tarot posts have brought incredible depth to the pairings. Her reflections always seem to reveal layers of meaning I hadn’t considered, which is why I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her voice at the helm for this pairing.
Without further ado, here is Julie’s beautiful exploration of the Warrior and the Page of Pentacles.
Excited and honored to be a guest writer here on Jenna’s substack, writing about the Archetype and the Tarot! The cards that came forward are the Warrior and the Page of Pentacles.
The Warrior Archetype
As I consider the Warrior Archetype, they are the many soldiers through time that have sacrificed and risked their own safety to protect and defend those that could not stand up for themselves. We see this in history with William Wallace. In myth, Hercules. In film, the Last Samari. Warriors are rooted in masculine/yang energy. That of action and dominion, strength and vigor, along with the ability to strategize and plan. This does not mean that all warriors are men, consider Joan of Arc, Boudica and the Amazons. I am not pro war. Yet, I consider Arjuna from the Bhagavad Gita that reluctantly choose to fight a righteous war against tyranny. Today our Warriors are considered activists, truth tellers, dissidents, heretics, free thinkers and revolutionaries.
In the light the warrior channels their aggression for a noble cause. They have a strong sense of purpose; their fulfillment comes through working for the greater good of all. They are in the role of guardian. Able to put aside their own welfare because the well-being of a person, group, place or belief is of more importance. Their focus is to prevail, despite obstacles. Perseverance may be the quality that drives them, but they are also astute. Knowing when to fight and when not to, for it isn’t always about the battle.
The shadow side goes a couple of ways. First, we find the villain warrior. The noble cause has long since been abandoned if there ever was one. It’s an addiction to power, built on corruption and malicious aggression. Unfortunately, history is full of these scoundrel warriors. Genghis Khan, Vlad the Impaler, Caligula, Attila the Hun, etc. In our current day it’s the toxicity of patriarchal structures that support the war machine. Corporations that care more about the bottom line than the consumer. Religious organizations bent on fear mongering and controlling the masses.
The second way of the shadow is when the Warrior is repressed, resulting in meekness. Historically, these soldiers would have been those used by the barbarians for their own devices since they could be easily controlled. Today this shows up in our culture as a sense of powerlessness, passivity and a feeling of defenselessness. Society trained to be agreeable and to not rock the boat.
I sense the Warrior comes up in a reading because we’re being called upon to stand up for what we believe in. To speak the truth of how we feel about a situation. To dive deep and live from our core sacredness. To be a spiritual warrior.
Some questions to reflect on this week:
Are you consciously moving in your life from what you deeply believe in?
Do your impulses carry you into action when action is not clearly asked for?
Can you be a warrior unto yourself? For your children? Your loved ones?
How can you learn greater perseverance and discernment?
Page of Pentacles
Here the Page of Pentacles is in a tranquil place, holding and examining a golden coin. Comfortable as they stand in a verdant meadow of blooming flowers, alongside a plowed field and cluster of trees that convey the abundance that is present. In the distance the mountains are calling to the Page, the journey that must continue. For now, the Page is free to wonder and explore.
Pages represent the element earth, as do pentacles, signifying our bodies, health, home and finances. Along with a deep intuitive connection to the soils of the Mother. As young acolytes, they are eager to learn. It’s about self-discovery through listening to their bodies and exploring their environments. Whatever sparks their imagination, creativity is the result. As they move forward with this raw potential, it can lead them to stumble and fall, but even challenges to these Pages, are teachers.
Their main message is to keep your feet planted on the ground, be innovative but also use common sense. The Page is asking, are you listening to your body? What information is it giving you? What new skills do you need to learn? Have you started that project that you have been wanting to? This Page assures, you have the curiosity and enthusiasm to see your dream through.
How does this pair work together?
Becoming a warrior whether physically and/or spiritually does not happen overnight. The Page is the mediary, the apprentice. With their inquisitiveness and wonder they start their training. They begin to learn the tools of their trade, the necessities of what it takes to be a Warrior.
Discovering the importance of meeting the challenges by facing them directly. Not by ploughing through them, but by implementing discernment, knowing when to crusade on and when not to. Battling ignorance, whether one’s own or in the world. Not with senseless force but grounded in the heart. A humbleness that is both flexible and strong, kind yet firm.
Over time these Pages become Warriors! Speaking the truth for those that cannot speak for themselves. Being an activist, even a revolutionary. A force for change that is so needed in our world today.
Jenna, thanks for the lovely intro! I am just now getting around to reading posts, and I find this one! Fun to see it here!
