So much here Jenna! Temperance! My favorite card in the deck....well the Moon card too and then there is the Queen of Pentacles. Okay so, I love the Temperance card. It is liminal! It finds the common ground between the opposites, it creates something new within the polarities.. It speaks to all that I write about.
Next story! I love stories, mythology, folklore, fables! The metaphors & analogies that I take home, that teach me and show me where I am. Very much like the tarot! Then there is the stories I tell myself. Watching out for the ones that I get caught in, entrap me as an identity or mask. Like conditioning or trauma. But the ones that help me with greater meaning are very powerful. I am working on right now for substack tomorrow. It has been an amazing process to contemplate and find the subtle messages.
This is an excellent call to action for the week Jenna, thank you❤
I appreciate this lesson about Temperance because I knew none of this until reading your essay. I love that the angel is pouring water in a way that defies gravity and our conventions. As you know I am not very familiar with Tarot but I suspect you have an outstanding knack for teaching the uninitiated in a way that is both simple and layered at the same time and I love it.
Thank you so much, Donna! ♥️♥️ I really do feel like we're all learning the tarot together. It's always new to me and every time I look at it, I see a different layer or perspective. One of the things that came to mind about Temperance is the word temper and that it's something we can lose under the right conditions. As in "I lost my temper". So Temperance can be that calm, stable, middle ground and when we lose it, we fly off into reactive mode, which is what your latest post was all about. I love that connection between our posts! 🤗
Beautifully written! I love that you name the two Storytellers. I’ve often felt that story is an important keystone of humanity - we turn everything into a story of some kind, it’s how we interpret the world.
Your definition of Temperance also reminds me a lot of radical acceptance: the ability to hold two opposing thoughts or feelings and recognize both to be true.
Yes to all of this, Kerani, thank you! 💖🤗 I'm literally, right now, writing an article for Thursday all about how this storytelling ability is an integral part of being human, just as you said. We make meaning of everything we experience. We're brilliant at it! And I love your reflection on Temperance. I often think that being able to hold paradox, developing that capacity, is my life's work. Some days it's easier than others. 😁
Yes! And it’s an interesting thing because I’m our storytelling capacity, we have to question whether or not we’re being reliable narrators. The desire to make meaning out of everything can lead us to some false conclusions.
Ooomph so much to unpick here for me Jenna. I immediately got not to trust everything that you read, see. Not everyone has your best interests at heart. Comparison has definitely come to the forefront for me lately, I'm very aware of its impact on me. I have been guided to ALWAYS consult my own medicine, before rushing into what someone else is doing. Lots for me to think about this week. Thank you xx
Thank you, Louise! 💖💖💖 I love that you brought trust into the conversation. There is such a link between trust and comparison, isn't there? And it's so foundational. The fact that I think one thing is better than another, or that I even have preferences, is based on my trust that my past experiences are still true in the present. Fascinating! Thank you for this!
It’s so true. I am guilty of using the comparison too as it’s easy to forget that the other individual may not feel the same way as you do even if you went through the same experience.
Yes! I noticed this too! I'm really finding that every person has their own unique way of perceiving everything. I can't assume that anyone sees things the same as I do, and that is hard for me to do. Thank you for bringing this up, Miriam! 💖💖💖
This idea of owning our story without comparison is such a profound thing to think about and witness in my current life experiences. Beautiful reflections.
Thanks, Christine! I'd love to know more if it feels good to share. I've been trying to not use comparisons today and finding that there are more and more layers of it all the time.
Oooh, The Hermit! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ That's my soul card. (I don't know if there's actually such thing as a soul card, I just made that up! 😁) The Hermit is the card I understand the most on a fundamental level. It just so perfectly describes who I am and what I'm about. Going within in order to help illuminate the journey for others. Ah, perfection. And then the Queen of Swords is another one I identify with. I think the Queen of Swords came up in one of my posts recently. I'll look it up and post a link. Do you know the Mary-El tarot deck. The Queen of Swords from that deck is one of my favorite cards ever. The artwork is gorgeous. I wish I could post a picture here for you, but you can find it from a Google search.
The Hermit is my "soul card" too - and I love that you made that up on the fly! I will have to check out the Mary-El deck, and the Queen of Swords doesn't budge from her square, that is for certain!!!

Out of concern for Rhiannon, whose absence from Substack and email seems odd, is anyone else noticing?
Hi Julie! Thank you for your sweet concern! 💕💕 Rhiannon is well, just taking a restoration time.
This is an excellent call to action for the week Jenna, thank you❤

My pleasure and thanks for bringing up a very important point

Thank you! I've been thinking about you lately. 🤗💖
Thank you, I started a new job and fell down a rabbit hole. Hopefully I'll be back soon. Xxx Thank you I appreciate you ❤️
Very nice, and I really appreciate that you reflect on the modern aspects of Temperance.
Thank you so much! 💖💖 I have a soft spot for Temperance. Some of the cards just kind of draw is in I suppose. Do you have any favorite cards?
Yes, thanks for asking. The Hermit is my all time favorite, and I also like the Queen of Swords. Any insight on either?

Here's the link to one I did with the Queen of Swords.
Thank you for this!
