I’m really excited that this fifth month of our year-long exploration of Magic—with the theme of JOY—lands in January! I love the idea of beginning our calendar year focusing on joy. 💖
So, joy…what is it exactly?
I used to facilitate a class on Danielle LaPorte’s book, “The Desire Map”, where we would spend six weeks deeply exploring feeling words in order to come up with our core desired feelings. Joy was often more controversial than you might think. Many felt that it wasn’t specific enough to be a core desired feeling. It was the equivalent of saying that you want to feel “good”. It’s hard to intentionally generate a feeling that broad and vague.
Then one of my ingenious friends said that joy isn’t so much a feeling word as it is a container word. I thought that was perfect.
Joy is an experience that contains many potential feelings including (but not limited to): happiness, ecstasy, sensuality, fulfillment, excitement, pleasure, bliss, delight, etc. The feelings that we put into our containers of joy will be unique to each of us, and will also depend on the circumstances we find ourselves in.
Relating with Magic is a great way to seed and cultivate joy in our lives. Through practices of Magic, we can add sparkle to everyday experiences. AND the reverse is also true. Instead of our Magic practices being perpetually solemn occasions, we can intentionally add joy to them and recharge them with delight. This month is going to be all about remembering that Magic has a fun and silly side…and so do we!
For week one, we will examine and release any blocks we might have to experiencing joy.
Week two will be an exploration of Magic and sensual pleasures.
Week three will be an exploration of Magic and fun/games.
Week three will be an exploration of Magic and celebration.
And, of course, there are journal prompts, a card spread, and much more!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below or send me an email. I can’t wait to explore Joy and Magic with you! 🤗✨
(In case you’ve missed them, you can find the first four downloadable packs here.)
Oh Jenna! I love the idea that Joy is a Container Word. I felt I had to write that as a proper noun, as it feels that it is somewhat Important, somewhat Special, somewhat MAGICAL. It feels as though the Container of Joy is as magical as the Cauldron of Life.
My Container of Joy is a beautiful rainbow coloured bottle with a cork lid and a beautiful purple ribbon tied around it. When you hold it to the light it is iridescent and glistens with moonlight and sunbeams, rain drops and dew drops. When you gently shake it it looks like a cloud that is ready to spread out and offer rainbow light all around the place. And then if you poured some in to your tea, for example, you would breathe out soo deeply that your heart would feel as though if you took your last breath you would die happy, fulfilled and that all you had to do was done.
Bless you, Jenna. This is magical.
This is the most wonderful wonder I’ve read today a Jenna... joy as a container word - a container of joy where a little can be drunk every day to top up depleted levels... how perfect..!! ✨
