Dearest readers,
I hope you have some time this week to soak in the blessings of the early harvest. In hopes of us all taking a little time to be outside and away from screens, I’m keeping things simple today by sharing my Lughnasadh ritual from the Magic and the Depths downloadable pack. May you all enjoy this sweet time as Summer begins the slow turn to Autumn. 🌻☀️
If you’ve been following our seasonal rituals in the Magic packs, you’ll remember that our journey began deep in the heart of Winter, nestled in the quiet of a cave. At Imbolc, as February arrived, we started to gather our belongings and prepare for the transition. By the time the Spring Equinox came around, we began to catch the first glimmers of light as we stepped outside.
With Beltane, we found ourselves fully embracing the light, celebrating new beginnings and the fertility of the Earth. As the Summer Solstice approached, our days were filled with bustling activity and vibrant energy. Now, as we arrive at Lughnasadh, the time has come to celebrate the first fruits.
Lughnasadh is a beautiful blend of action and reflection. As we reap the early rewards of our hard work and the gifts from the Earth, we take a moment to look back on the memories we've created since leaving the cave of Winter. This is a time to assess our current needs and those of our community, and to plan how we will move forward together.
Materials Needed:
A loaf of bread, made from locally harvested wheat if possible.
A locally grown piece of fruit
A journal and pen
Process:
Find a quiet place outdoors and open your sacred space however you like.
Invite in your primary helper spirits and ask them to resource you with clearing and protection.
Ensure that your energetic boundary is strong.
Take a piece of the bread and give thanks. Say aloud something like, “May this bread give me clarity on where we’ve been.” Then eat the bread. Notice any thoughts or feelings that arise and make note of them.
Take another piece of bread and offer it to the earth and/or your community. Say aloud something like, “May this bread carry with it the spirit of forgiveness.”
Now take the piece of fruit and give thanks. Say aloud something like, “May this fruit give me clarity on what is most needed now.” Eat a bite of the fruit. Notice any thoughts or feelings that arise and make note of them.
Offer another bite of the fruit to the earth and/or your community. Say aloud something like, “May this fruit carry with it the magic of bringing together what is needed. And may it be brought with sweetness.”
Spend some time journaling about which experiences you’ve had so far in the light part of the year that you feel might hold the most meaning; and also about your hopes for the rest of the season.
When you feel complete, offer thanks and close your sacred space.
I’m amazed by all the incredible Substack posts that have come out this week about Lughnasadh! After you’ve enjoyed some time away from screens, do yourself a favor and search the app for ‘Lughnasadh’ or ‘Lammas’ to explore some of these writings. If you want to learn more about the history of this seasonal holiday, here are a couple posts I recommend that are FILLED with goodness about Lughnasadh:
What a wonderful ritual Jenna! This sacred reciprocity of receiving the first harvest while also giving back to the ground. Beautiful! And thank you so much for the mention in your post. Blessed Lughnasadh to you and yours. May your Sabbat/Celebration be filled with the abundance of this time!
As you step into Lughnasadh we step into Imbolc...a cross over time. A sacred time. For me the wattle is blooming and the days while still so cold invite a call to enjoy the final month of Winter as the tiny signs of hope arise for Spring. Many magical blessings to you dear one. 🍁🌸🍃🌱
