Mmm I love this combination of archetypes and this topic! As I have been feeling so fatigued and bottomed out this week... I’ve had to allow myself some “cozy hours” of turning my brain off and watching some enduring movies while balancing daily yoga and healing sessions with clients.
I really love to give my body a chance to move with some dance and shaking as well. Trying to fill my cup up first always before giving to others is a lesson I have learned to lean into 🙏🏼✨ thank you for these reflections!
Thank YOU, Christine! I l hadn't thought about shaking, but when I read your comment, my whole body said that's exactly what I need to do. I felt all the old, stale, crusty energy bits dislodging and falling away. Thank you for that! And dance, I love it. I often have dance parties with the dead. Light a few candles, invite them and start dancing. They love it!
I'm so glad you've allowed yourself some cozy time. That's so necessary. I'm sending you all kinds of love and restorative energy! What movies did you see?
I have thought so often about the meaning of home and physical realm in recent days. These cards, The Monarch (I love that you make it gender neutral) and the King of Pentacles seem to have a serendipitous connection...
Not only with your last post, but also with others... and of course so often my own... but not only home as in roots, in familiarity but in home as the internal place of ourselves...our bodies and this is the home I neglect too often in trying to keep those roots nourished. I don’t listen and I should, I don’t rest and I should.
These cards show me that I must master bother in and out places, more efficiently without dislodging roots.
Thank you, Susie! And I'm right there with you. I have to constantly remind myself to listen to my body. My mind is so dominant. I love that you used the phrase "home as the internal place of ourselves." ❤️ That's the key, I think. I'm not sure I'll ever get there, but I imagine that those who can feel a sense of internal home no matter where they are or what is happening around them are able to truly be at peace. That makes me think of the light side of the Orphan Child archetype...but I'll save that topic for when I might draw that card (and, as you mentioned serendipitous connections, that will likely happen soon. 😁)
What strikes a chord in me here is that what differentiates the monarch from god or goddess is place, which ties so beautifully into the Magic and Home theme for December and here, the rootedness of these two intertwining cards in the physical realm of body--our life-home.
I've noticed since returning home on Friday that a deep tiredness has come over me, the long journey behind me, a stillness now in my presence. I had not anticipated this fatigue. But it makes perfect sense.
To your question then, sleep and stillness are calling from the physical realm.
Oh my goodness, yes! I can only imagine how your body is ready to melt into deep rest. This makes me think of our ancestors (as most things do) and how, after a year of nomad-ness, they would settle into their winter homes and rest. They made meaning of their activities from the warmer parts of the year (usually in the form of storytelling), but otherwise went into a sort of hibernation. May your hibernation be filled with nothing but goodness! Enjoy!
Thanks Jenna. I really appreciated that you took the archetypes of King and Queen and went rouge and created your own archetype the Monarch. (I do that too, new archetypes get formed in such ways) Letting this not be so much about gender but about the qualities and specifically their connection to place, the land. You wrote about home last time, here is the same idea. It is where we set down our roots. How amazing you drew the King of Pentacles! Again the suit of earth, the ground, the land, the place! And our bodies are that as well! Taking care of this greatest gift, the body temple.
Not always the easiest. The body is the densest of all energies, it is the place that takes the longest to integrate. Yet this is where I learn patience, care, tenderness, etc. It invites me to slow down to the pace of the body. Not the fastness of our culture. To love this form as the vehicle of life.
You hit the nail on the head here! I was so amazed that The Monarch AND the King of Pentacles came up right after my post on Home. It's like this message of rootedness and belonging must be REALLY important right now. And then taking that message into the body. That's something that is still not automatic for me. My default is to be either in my head or off in the ethers, so I have to always remind myself to be embodied. I love that you say it's an invitation to slow down. That's exactly it, and what I'm prioritizing this week, asking myself how I can be the best benevolent ruler of my body. ❤️
"Having complete wisdom and mastery of the gift of their suit, they bring meaning to life by deciding who gets what. They know exactly how to give the gift of their suit for the greatest benefit of all."
The King of Pentacles is a "master of manifestations and abundance."
These quotes are so relevant to me at the moment...to give the gift of my suit for the greatest benefit of all...and in turn, by looking after my physical being I can do that in a way that sustains both me and the wider world. This is soooo important. THANK YOU for this reminder and for the Rite to accept this blessings and energy within myself.
Bless you and thank you again,
your cards are always so perfect for where I am at xxx
very important thing to be when one lives in the physical realm. And to use this abundance and manifestation skills in a way that EMPOWERS EVERYONE - including me.
Oh Sam, this gave me chills! "...in a way that sustains both me and the wider world...that empowers everyone." This is perfection, isn't it?! We do need to remember to include ourselves in the equation. And when we do, the whole world is better for it. Thank you for this!
p.s. I LOVE that link to your post on the Court cards in the Tarot(!) and how you apply it to the King of Pentacles with this: "Having complete wisdom and mastery of the gift of their suit, they bring meaning to life by deciding who gets what. They know exactly how to give the gift of their suit for the greatest benefit of all.
The King of Pentacles is the council of elders that provides for the realm in very practical, tangible ways."
Oh thank you! I struggled with the court cards for so long that once I finally had a grasp of them, I knew I needed to share in case it was helpful to anyone else.
Love, love, love! It's such a joy to read these @Jenna Newell Hiott, lots of gratitude.
I've also just learned in the class I'm taking (Your Story Matters) what you're calling "The Monarch" they call "The Royal," and I also appreciate how these are both gender-neutral terms.
I particularly loved this that you write: "One of the things that differentiates The Monarch from other powerful archetypes like the God or Goddess, is their ***connection to place.*** The Monarch has a realm—a physical space of which they are the head steward, responsible for the wellbeing of the land itself and its inhabitants. Because of the enormity of this responsibility, The Monarch possesses the ability to see the big picture, or the group as a whole, rather than placing attention on any individual part."
And similar to what you're saying, I learned the Outer Journey of the Royal: To rule or manage, and acquire power and authority. And the Inner Journey: To rule with heart so that they create a “prosperous Kingdom for all,” and not just one’s self or one’s family without consideration to the whole. They're driven by the question: How do I make a prosperous kingdom for everyone?
I also particularly love how you write about both the light and the shadow side of these archetypes, Jenna, as it shows us how we have a choice with how we may want to engage the energy of these archetypes. Thank you again!
Also have you ever come across the awesome, The Tarot Handbook: Practical Applications of Ancient Visual Symbols by Angeles Arrien? I love her take on the Tarot too.
Thank you so much for this amazing comment, Camilla! ❤️❤️❤️ I LOVE that the class you're taking has a gender neutral ruling sort of archetype too. That feels very affirming. I really like that your class uses the terms Outer and Inner journey. I might even like this better than light and shadow. I'll have to sit with that for a bit. Even though inner and outer are binaries, they somehow feel less binary to me than light and shadow. 🤔 And yes! The power of choice is what the archetypes are all about in my opinion. That feels so empowering. Thank you for the book recommendation! I had not heard of it, but immediately bought myself a copy. I can't wait until it arrives!

Mmm yes I love that the shaking is supportive for you 💖
I watched “She Said” on Amazon prime. It’s so wonderfully done. I’m watching a silly romcom right now which I cannot remember haha 😂

This, precisely as you have shared, rings a bell of truth. This is a time of rest and meaning-making. Hibernation.
