Well, all I can say is it's been one of those weeks when everything is pointing in the exact same direction. I have recently stepped past my fear of disapproval or rejection to offer the want of leadership in a public way. Reading this this week (even though it's a previous post) is at least the third confirmation that I'm moving in the right direction.
Yay! 💖😍 I love when these sorts of synchronicities affirm that we're headed the right way. And I'm so excited about you stepping into a public leadership role. Kudos to you and the courage that takes! Blessings on your journey, my friend!
As I consider the prostitute archetype, I ask where do I compromise myself, giving my power away when I don't really want to? Who or whom is taking advantage of this or using me? Coming together with the KofW, this power commodity settles into an embodied and felt sense of true passion and longing. A standing in a power that comes from something deeper than cannot be bought or sold. Deep volcanic forces of creativity arising into the moment... I feel the divine feminine here.
I love this, Julie! I, too, feel the divine feminine in this pair. I love how you name this power that cannot be bought or sold...because it's not a commodity. It's not something we own, it's not "my" power. Sam recently wrote a post about feelings and I made a similar comment there. We are in relationship with true power and it becomes part of us, but not in an objective way. Brilliant wisdom, as always! Thank you, friend! 💖💖💖
Hi Kelle! Thank you so much for sharing this wisdom. It's an important conversation. I, too, have been thinking that names of some of the archetypes in this deck would benefit from a change. I do think the experience of feeling like one has to choose between security and integrity is a universal enough pattern to be considered an archetype, but in order to make it clear that this doesn't have to do with sex workers or victims of trafficking, it would be better if the name was something else. Caroline Myss herself (creator of this deck) uses a sort of subtitle of Guardian of Faith for this one, maybe that's a good name for it until I come up with a better one. I have, in the past, taken the liberty of changing some of these already (like when I took issue with The King and The Queen being so gender-based, so I combined them and named it The Monarch). I'm also slowly working with a partner to create our own deck that hopefully rectifies these sorts of issues because the focus will be on the experience more than the face or name of the archetype. I'm grateful to you for bringing my attention to the name of The Prostitute as another one to change for the next time it comes up in a draw.
The first thought that came to mind was that the Prostitute archetype is a broker, trading something they have for something they need, but technically, a broker is a go-between in that exchange. So perhaps, the Trader? Soul Trader harkens to the proverbial trad with the devil, giving that which makes us who we are, in exchange for something of perceived need.
Thanks, Kristi! 💖💖💖 I was just talking in a comment above about the need to change the name of this archetype. I'm not sure what the new name would be yet, but something that captures this experience of when we feel we have to choose between security and integrity. If you have any ideas in that brilliant mind of yours, please pass them this way! 🤗

A prostitute isn't an archetype, this is such a privileged perspective. It's a slur used against both sex workers and trafficking victims/survivors.

Oh I like this a lot! The Soul Trader. That feels more poetic than The Integrity Negotiator as I'd been thinking. 😁
A very interesting take on the card. And good timing for me this week. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Jill! 🤗💖 It's good timing for me this week too!
The entire prostitute segment. I would have never thought of it in that way but wow...yeah.

I think prostitute is very fitting! The only other thing I can think of is selling our souls to the devil 😈
Oooh, yeah, I love that! And then that makes me think of The Devil in the tarot and what a great pair The Prostitute and The Devil would make.
