Introducing The Genius
Yay! I’m so excited that you all voted to continue our month-long archetypal experiment! 🤗 For February, I’ve chosen The Genius. Each week this month, I’ll draw a tarot card to explore a new facet of The Genius, diving deep into its gifts, shadows, and everyday expressions. My hope is that by the end of February, we’ll feel a profound connection to this archetype—its essence, its potential, and the ways it is already moving in our lives.
Just like The Guardian, The Genius comes to us from the lineage of eight ancient functions (archetypes) that my ancestor guide showed me. In this vision, each function was alive and active within the collective, ensuring that every aspect of human experience had a place at the table. The Genius—no less important than any other—was entrusted with the spark of innovation, the light of discovery, and the creative intelligence that propels humanity forward.
Where The Guardian shields and preserves, The Genius illuminates and expands. It’s a driving force of inspiration, sparking insight that can shift not just our individual perspectives but the collective’s as well.
Interestingly, the word “genius” comes from the Latin genius, referring to an individual’s guiding or protective spirit—a creative, generative force rather than a simple measure of high intellect. It was linked to gignere (“to beget” or “to create”), pointing toward our capacity to bring new ideas, new life, and new possibilities into the world. Over time, “genius” became associated with extraordinary mental ability or intellect, but in its original sense, it reminds us that true “genius” lies in our innate power to generate and express the creative spark within us.
In its light aspect, The Genius prompts us to ask the big questions, dream the big dreams, and innovate beyond what we once thought possible. It breaks barriers, sees patterns, and births transformative ideas. However, The Genius also has a shadow: arrogance, obsession, over-intellectualization, or the temptation to see oneself as “above” the collective rather than in service to it.
Ultimately, The Genius calls us to honor the power of the mind and the creative spirit—to value new ways of seeing without losing touch with the heart. As we explore this archetype, we’ll be invited to ask questions like: How can we harness our inner brilliance to serve ourselves and the world around us? In what areas of life are we most naturally innovative? Where might we be using “smarts” as an escape or a mask? What does it look like to balance the gifts of intellect with humility, compassion, and connection?
Each tarot card we pair with The Genius this month will shed more light on these questions. Together, we’ll discover how to embody curiosity, spark creative fire, and remain humble stewards of the gifts we’ve been given.
A ritual to attune to The Genius
In this ritual, we honor the spark of creative power that dwells within each of us—a force that goes far beyond mere intellect. Think of The Genius as a living current of possibility, an invitation to see the world (and ourselves) with fresh eyes. It’s not about being “the smartest in the room,” but rather embracing our innate capacity to generate, to birth new ideas and perspectives, and to stretch the boundaries of what we believe is possible.
As you step into relationship with The Genius, take a moment to notice any stirrings in your mind or heart. Perhaps you feel a flicker of excitement, or maybe a gentle ping of self-doubt arises. You might also notice a faint whisper of curiosity, urging you to explore what new frontiers await. Whatever you feel, simply acknowledge it—these inner responses are part of the conversation that the Genius initiates.
Yet every bright spark casts a shadow. The Genius can tempt us toward arrogance, intellectual elitism, or disconnect from our shared humanity. It can whisper that our ideas set us apart, rather than draw us closer to the collective. This ritual is your chance to bring that brilliance into alignment with your heart, ensuring that creativity and insight serve not only your own growth but also the greater good.
Before we begin, let’s try to release any notion we might have of the Genius as an exclusive realm reserved for prodigies. Instead, let’s welcome it as a generative life force that everyone can access. By tuning into it consciously, we’ll discover how our own unique insights can spark transformation within and beyond the self.
Throughout February, we’ll return to The Genius weekly—drawing a tarot card to illuminate new insights, spark fresh inspirations, and deepen our relationship with this archetype. As we do, remember: The Genius is not just a lofty ideal or an intellectual power—it’s a part of you. By welcoming it into your life with intentionality and humility, you can channel its energy for both personal growth and collective benefit.
I look forward to journeying alongside you as we discover what The Genius can teach us about living with inspired minds and open hearts. Here’s to a month of brilliant ideas, deep curiosity, and a willingness to see our world anew!
Genius is not an archetype I’m closely familiar with. I’m excited for your unfolding of of Genius, to see what journey it take me on
Oh, this isn’t just a post: it’s a portal. ✨🔥 The Genius as a living current of possibility, a force that doesn’t ask for perfection but for daring? Yes, yes, and YES. The world worships intelligence like a trophy, but real brilliance isn’t a pedestal - it’s motion, it’s expansion, it’s service.
Also, that shadow side of the Genius? The temptation to hoard wisdom instead of weaving it into the collective? Chills. Because the mind is powerful, but the heart is the true alchemist.
Loving this journey already - let’s stretch the edges of what’s possible and see where this takes us. 🚀💡
